The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, on Monday morning gave an interview on the television of the incinerators "Top Channel".

Veliaj said that there is no obstacle to opening a competition for the management of the Sharra landfill.

"What I believe and am coming to understand as one of the customers and the main customer of the landfill in fact is that now that the case has gone to trial and the whole procedure has already been investigated I believe that there is no obstacle to opening a competition... ", declared the mayor of Tirana.

In fact, Veliaj seems to be looking for competition, so that a new concessionaire emerges.

Veliaj wants a new service to come out, to cover up the crime, but before the crime can be covered, the people responsible must come out, and one of the main people responsible is Erion Veliaj.  ( Read here )

Veliaj signed, gave written agreement for the construction of the incinerator, which was seized in August 2023, and now the Sharra landfill is administered by the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets. ( Read here )

The mayor of Tirana was interrogated by SPAK regarding this affair, on April 30, 2024. The Special Prosecutor's Office has also launched a property investigation for Veliaj. ( Read here )

But despite the fact that the affair in Tirana's non-existent incinerator has been proven by justice, the Municipality of Tirana continues to make payments.

According to official figures, the government has paid 129 million euros for incinerators that do not work and do not exist. ( Read here )

And yet, Veliaj seems not to stop.

Veliaj said that a competition should be opened as the case is under trial, but he did not mention the fact that we still do not have a final decision of the Appeal.

Another fact that should be emphasized is that there is still a file under investigation for the Tirana incinerator, it is the open file within the criminal proceedings no. 255 of 2020.

SPAK has verified the mega-affair with the waste and closed the first file, but on the other hand, the investigations have been deepened for all the people involved and those who were paid by the incinerators.  ( Read here )

But Veliaj, who seems to continue the theft in peace, is seeking to open the landfill management race, ignoring the still open investigations or the pending trial.

Another fact that should be mentioned is the contract with "Integrated Energy BV SPV", a contract which has not been broken.

The company "Integrated Energy BV SPV" and its assets have been seized, but in order to open the competition, the contract must first be terminated.

Therefore, Veliaj's request for opening the race is absurd. Veliaj is trying to get out of this corrupt mega-affair, after he signed the concession award without meeting the municipal council, he signed on behalf of other municipalities of the Tirana district and destroyed the NJZP and made the land contract with its directors. / CNA
