SPAK has closed the investigations for the first file of the Tirana incinerator, while the investigations have been deepened for the other files of the mega-affair, for which the Albanian government has paid 129 million euros.

The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who was interrogated a few months ago by SPAK, is also under investigation for this mega affair.

Despite the fact that the Tirana incinerator is still under investigation and trial, Veliaj is trying to treat the affair of the century as a closed matter.

He stated that the people involved in the affair are facing justice and there is no obstacle to open the competition for the management of the Sharra landfill.

“We are one of the 5 customers of that entire landfill area. There is the Municipality of Tirana, the Municipality of Kamza, the Municipality of Vora, the Municipality of Kavaja and Rrogozhina, and also Durrës. This means that we are one of the customers, we are not the authority that manages it. The authority that manages it is the State Agency that depends on the Ministry of the Interior, make no mistake, and is managing that asset.

I believe that now that the case has gone to trial and it has been clarified very well what is the role of the municipalities, that the municipalities were not the owners of the incinerator or the initiators.
