Agreement for immigrants/ Rama: We have been asked by other countries and we

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke during the Albania-EU intergovernmental conference from Luxembourg, about the refugee agreement with Italy. The head of the government said that Tirana has received requests from other countries of the Union, but that the answer has been rejection.

"Yes, we have been asked by others and we have said no. Everyone must understand that our relationship with Italy is special, it goes back thousands of years, it goes back in time with many significant volumes of action of the last 30 years.

We came out of the hellhole of the most brutal communist regime in Europe, when we left our shores in hundreds of thousands and Italy opened its arms to us, or when Italy saved us from a possible financial disaster after the collapse of the pyramid schemes and having to come to the days of the earthquake that Varhelyi mentioned with the finesse of rebuilding this relationship.

The Italian partiers were the first to come to save lives under the rubble. We are not an EU country, we are Europeans, this is not a certificate issued by Brussels. Our geography speaks volumes for what we have done with Italy. If there is anything to be developed above this level, it should be at the upper level of the EU and the Western Balkans. This is to understand that the EU and the Western Balkans should stand by and work with each other.

The phenomenon of immigration is not solved a piece here and a piece there, but with a global approach. It is one thing to fight illegal immigration and another thing is to guarantee regular migration. And Europe must do both of these," said Rama.

We remind you that the first group of immigrants left the Italian coast to arrive and then be accommodated in Lezha./ CNA
