Quality sleep is important for our well-being, but not everyone gets it. Recent research shows that what we eat during the day may be linked to the quality of our sleep at night. According to a study published in Sleep Health, people who consume more fruits, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates have deeper, uninterrupted sleep.
Researchers from the University of Chicago Medicine and Columbia University found that participants who ate more fruits and vegetables, as well as fiber-rich foods like whole grains, had longer periods of deep sleep.
Those who followed the fruit and vegetable recommendations experienced an average improvement of about 16% in sleep quality compared to those who did not eat at all.
