Arms trafficking to England/ GJKKO sentences defendants

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has issued a verdict in the case of trafficking of weapons and ammunition to the United Kingdom, convicting three of the four defendants and declaring Rifat Avdiaj innocent.

According to the decision of the panel of judges Bib Ndreca, Rudina Palloj and Atalanta Zeqiraj, the defendant Adulla Hoxhaj was found guilty of attempted trafficking of weapons and ammunition, participation in a structured criminal group and illegal possession of weapons. After benefiting from the summary trial, he was finally sentenced to 8 years and 8 months in prison.

Meanwhile, Admir Tutaj and Boyken Turtulli were sentenced to 8 years in prison each for arms trafficking and participation in a structured criminal group, after their sentences were reduced due to a summary trial.

On the contrary, the court declared Rifat Avdiaj innocent, assessing that there was insufficient evidence to support the charges against him. Consequently, the lifting of the security measure of “prison arrest” was ordered and his immediate release was ordered, unless he is being held for another matter.

According to the investigative file, during searches conducted in 2024 at Adulla Hoxhaj's apartment, authorities seized a significant arsenal of weapons and military equipment, including pistols, a Kalashnikov-type automatic weapon, hundreds of cartridges, silencers, optical binoculars, laser devices, electroshock devices, handcuffs and other tactical equipment.

The court ordered the confiscation of the weapons, ammunition and seized items, while several vehicles and electronic devices will remain the subject of further property investigations and separate proceedings.

The parties have the right to appeal the decision to the Special Court of Appeal within 15 days from the communication of the reasoned decision./ CNA
