Escalation of the situation in Lebanon/ Nine killed in Israeli attacks,

At least nine people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon this Wednesday, at a time when the fragile agreement for a partial ceasefire is being seriously tested.

Among the victims were two emergency medical team doctors whose ambulance was hit in the Chehour area, while another attack occurred on a car south of the capital, Beirut. The Lebanese Ministry of Health denounced the acts, stating that attacks on medical personnel violate international humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that it had intercepted a drone and two missiles that had crossed the border from Lebanese territory. In response, the Hezbollah group said it had targeted a group of Israeli troops in northern Israel, claiming that its actions were in response to Israel's violation of the ceasefire.

The situation remains extremely tense even though Israeli and Lebanese diplomats are holding second talks in Washington, aiming to find a security plan that would make Lebanon independent of Hezbollah's influence.

The escalation comes despite a deal reached on Monday under which Israel pledged not to bomb the capital Beirut in exchange for a halt to Hezbollah attacks. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump confirmed he had personally intervened to stop the bombing of the Lebanese capital, calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further fighting.

According to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since the start of the war on March 2, the death toll has reached at least 3,516 people, while over a million residents have been displaced from their homes. Israel reports that 26 soldiers and four Israeli civilians have been killed in the conflict. /CNA
