Macron visits Albania/ 100 French gendarmerie officers arrive in Tirana

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will make the first bilateral visit of a French president to Albania on October 16 and 17 during the Berlin Process Summit

CNA learns that 100 gendarmerie officers and French security forces have arrived in Tirana. The French head of state will stay in Tirana for only 1 night. 

The so-called "Berlin Process" summit, launched in 2014 at the initiative of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, aims to promote political dialogue, cooperation and reconciliation between the six countries of the Western Balkans. 

In Tirana, the focus will be especially on the renewed tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, for the events of September 24, the French presidency announces. 

"At the end of the summit, the Head of State will start a bilateral visit highlighting the "very positive dynamics of Franco-Albanian relations". It will be a matter of economic cooperation, especially in terms of energy transition, but also of cooperation cultural and educational, "particularly dense" between the two countries", the announcement states.

Emmanuel Macron met on Thursday, during the European summit in Granada (Spain), the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. He called on them to "continue the de-escalation and the quick organization of new elections in the north of Kosovo".

In addition to the countries of the region, the Berlin Process also includes nine member states of the European Union (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Slovenia and Poland) as well as the United Kingdom./ CNA
