He was asked if the decision to organize the Berlin conference in Tirana is an expression of will that the future of our region is in the EU?

But Sarrazin said the results of the meeting are more important than the venue.

He revealed that holding the meeting in Tirana aims to convey the message that the region is on an equal footing in the Berlin Process.

"The idea is to give the message that the region is on an equal footing in the Berlin Process. That's the idea. We need to stand for political will and Germany is trying to inject an influx of political will into the region as well with the aim of increasing the response to more political speed. For us, it is not only about the opening of chapters and the opening of negotiations, especially for Albania and North Macedonia. Our commitment is for a strong political will and for concrete results", emphasizes the Special Representative of the German government for the countries of the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin.

For Manuel Sarraz, the Berlin Process has given some concrete results for the countries of the Western Balkans, even though they are often underestimated.

"There is a historic chance to finally see that the Berlin Process can be a very powerful instrument in terms of contributing to the European perspective. But let's say it this way, about the role of European institutions and the rule of law in the Western Balkans. In this historical change that is already coming with Ukraine and Moldova, enlargement returns to the scene as the most powerful foreign policy instrument that the EU has. By the way, it is clearly in the hands of the Commission according to the procedure, not according to the decisions, because of the situation in the Council. So it is a historic chance especially for Germany and the countries of the Berlin Process in general to give another push and another flow of ideas to this process", he says./ CNA
