He killed the officer and injured another/ Violand Braçellari's

The mother of Violand Braçellari, the perpetrator of the serious incident in Lozhan i Maliqi, which killed police officer Enea Mekolli and injured another officer, Edison Adri, spoke today for the first time about what happened on Thursday, June 4th.

Berdane Bracellari, who says she was an eyewitness to the incident, has told her version of what happened the morning of the police operation. According to her, it all started in the cattle shed, where she and her son were at different times.

"I was there from the beginning, I entered the stable as always, I entered the other side myself, the son entered the other side. The son never interfered with my work, two workers simply ran away and came. I had a feeling that we had always been protecting ourselves because of the police. The police came, I said: 'Son, they came'. The son was lying by the window of the calves, there was a policeman. The son comes up, the policeman knocks him down", - said the mother.

Asked if her son fired first at the police, she insists that the first shots came from the officer.

"The policeman shot them first, then my son shot him. The police didn't even say surrender, nor that they were police. Violandi was hiding in the corner and went upstairs," she said.

In her testimony, Braçellari indicated that the boy had been living away from his family for years and hiding in mountainous areas.

"Violandi didn't just stay with me, he was sentenced to 10 years. He didn't stay here with me, he just came sometimes to eat bread. He lived in the mountains, only in the mountains. He never went to the village or the city. This situation has been like this for 8 years. For 10 grams of hashish, they found two grams at home, then they made it 10 grams," his mother said.

She also denies that her son has ever cultivated narcotics.

"Never. In Vlora we worked in construction, we got paid, we bred 30 goats and brought them here to Lozhan."

While she admits to receiving support for livestock farming, she denies allegations that the family has enriched itself through illegal activities.

"We got it. Not that it helped me, but there are state regulations here because I have livestock. No, Artan Hoxha says, hashish seeds, etc., look at the house. What haven't we heard?"

Despite the tragic event, Violand Braçellari's mother expresses regret for the loss of life of officer Enea Mekolli, saying that no one should have lost their life.

"I'm very sorry, my son would have died too. Neither my son nor the policeman is to blame. Because the policeman is under orders. If he had done this, if he had said: 'Stop'. This situation wouldn't have happened."

She said that there had been previous police attempts to arrest her son, but according to her, there had been no similar incidents.

"A few times. They didn't do what these guys did. Not that it was many times, I had one occasion."

He also had a message for the family of the deceased officer.

"I'm so sorry, it's like my son died. I feel sorry for him, I don't even know him, not the mother, not the father, not the son. I'm so sorry. I'm with them. I feel sorry for that boy. I don't know him and he doesn't know me. It's his job."

While confirming that she will meet her son after his arrest, she says she was unaware that he was carrying a weapon.

"I'm going to meet him, because I have a son. I feel sorry for him. I've been with him all these years. I didn't know he had a gun. I'd never seen him with a gun. There's no son to tell his mother I carry a gun."

The 55-year-old's mother says she has repeatedly tried to convince him to surrender, but according to her, he refused because of the sentence he had received.

"Many times. He just got angry, saying I should be sentenced to 10 years for two grams of hashish, I don't go to the police. The hashish wasn't found in my house or in my car, but in an abandoned apartment."

She also denies claims that her son cooperated with the police during the years he was on the run.

"What do you say? They had it in their sights. They had it in their sights, every checkpoint, from all four sides, wherever the boy went out, they would check his cars and what he had with him."

Bracellari also commented on the departure of the shepherd who worked on the farm the day before the event.

"He left because we made him swear that he would get 1 million lek salary if he stayed for more than a year. He stayed for 10 days and asked for 33 thousand lek a day. That's how much lek you have - I told him. He was very deceitful."

While she denies any connection between her son and drug trafficking or cultivation, she also disputes rumors of collaboration between him and the shepherd.

"What don't they say? It's not like he called the police, he stayed there for 10 days. When did it become a narcotic, when was it sold for 10 days?"

As investigations into the tragic incident continue, the Braçellari family defends the version that everything happened after an immediate reaction during the police operation. On the other hand, the loss of life of officer Enea Mekolli has shocked public opinion and has brought back to attention the dangers that State Police officers face every day in the line of duty. /CNA
