The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, inaugurated the "Partizani" gymnasium in the capital, which opened its doors to students after reconstruction.

Veliaj said that the "Partizani" high school was built with the same quality as for any other school built in the capital.

"For those who were worried after the earthquake, all the columns of the school have been reinforced with steel and concrete. So I want to thank the engineers, who worked in a relatively small space, to make sure that the emergency staircase, which usually comes as an addition to the building, is also a key part for the aesthetics of the facade, escaping from those old matchbox facades," he said.

The mayor added that the time when the private sector built higher quality and more beautiful buildings than public buildings can be called the end.

"When we started this work, we were used to the fact that everything in the state was uglier, dirtier and more dilapidated than that of the private sector. When you look at the "Servete Maçi", "Sami Frashëri" or "Partizani" schools today, the private things look older, more neglected and more dilapidated. Finally, we have reached the time when we take the light of our eyes, which are our children, to the schools with the best and most beautiful infrastructure in the country. Children may indeed be 25% of the population, but they are 100% of our future. For every violation that is done to a school, a kindergarten, a nursery school, you have not done it to 25% of the population, but to 100% of our future. As long as bags and oysters are 100% of the future, they should be 100% in our focus, our energy and our work", declared Veliaj.

The mayor invited students to maximize the time of using this school and its surroundings, singling out the library, where cultural activities can be organized, as well as the sports fields, which can be used even after school hours.

"Now that we have a fantastic building like this, let's bring it to life. We have a library that can also be opened to the community. We have opportunities to do endless activities, to join the network of sports schools, championships, community schools. This gym should be buzzing too. The territory, in Tirana, has become very expensive. We don't have the luxury of locking up at 2pm. I am convinced that now that the school has been built, the whole neighborhood will reflect the beauty that the school has, so as not to notice that it has been neglected and to keep up with the cleanliness that this extraordinary project reflects. I can say that it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful schools in Tirana", he emphasized./ CNA
