New Penal Code/ 16th consultative roundtable held, Pirdeni and Lamallari present

The 16th consultative roundtable on the draft of the new Criminal Code was held today at the Ministry of Justice. The focus of this meeting was on criminal offenses committed by public officials or against public activity.

Present at the organized roundtable were the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, the Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption, Adea Pirdeni, the chairman of the working group for the new Criminal Code, Arben Rakipi, as well as representatives of the HIDAKKI, the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination, the Public Procurement Agency, AKEP, and the Supreme Audit Office.

In his speech, the Minister of Justice said that at the end of this phase, all comments received will be carefully reviewed. Lamallari said that there will then be another phase of consultations.

The Minister expressed his confidence that in the end there will be a very high-quality product by harmonizing the new Criminal Code with the best international standards.

" The Ministry of Justice guarantees a comprehensive and transparent process. We strongly believe that at the end of this first phase of broad consultation, it will be the working group's opportunity to carefully process and review all comments received in writing or during these roundtables. Then, the opportunity will be given for a second round of consultations. I strongly believe that in the final we will have a very high-quality product, which guarantees adaptation to the needs and evolution of jurisprudence, but harmonizing this new Criminal Code with the best international standards and the Acquis Communautaire of the European Union ", said Minister Lamallari.

Minister Adea Pirdeni, in her speech, said that the new Criminal Code will not only be in line with European standards, but will also adapt to legal reality.

Prideni said that the phenomena present in society and in the work of the administration require a special address.

" The new Criminal Code should be in line not only with the best current, local and European standards, but above all, it should guarantee that it adapts to the legal, social and economic reality in the Republic of Albania. There is no other way than to reflect in the Code those phenomena that are present today in our society and the work of public administration and that require a special address ," declared Minister Pirdeni./CNA
