Discussions on territorial reform/ Klosi: Borders do not belong to parties but

The Special Parliamentary Committee for Administrative-Territorial Reform discussed today the need to deepen the reform that has reduced local government units.

The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Blendi Klosi, praised the presence of the opposition and underlined that the reduction of municipalities has been accepted by citizens and has transformed their relationship with local government.

Klosi stressed that the discussion on territorial reform needs to be deepened. He added that territorial borders do not belong to parties but to people.

"I appreciate the presence of the opposition in this commission. We agree on the need that Albania has had for the reduction of local government units."

How good it would be to have a complete reform agreed upon by both parties in 2015. It should be long-term, stand the test of time. Representatives of the opposition have not been against the reduction.

If there is one reform made in these years, it is the territorial reform that has transformed the relationship between citizens and local government.

We need to delve deeper. We need to take into account the arguments of the times. What does services mean? Services are now online and you get the service like in Tirana, Dibër or Skrapar.

Municipalities to be stronger should have more services, investments. Should it be deeper? We need to deepen this.

This is an important reform, the facts are stubborn, the indicators are stubborn, and the citizens have accepted it.

What we have tested is that all citizens welcome a further deepening of this reform. This belongs to the future meetings of the commission.

"Territorial borders do not belong to parties but to people. We must all agree. The product of this commission should be more than 10 years long," said Klosi./ CNA
