The Commission for Administrative-Territorial Reform is holding its next meeting today. Co-chair Luciano Boçi stated during his speech that if the same methods are followed as in past reforms, the work of this commission will be a failure and without results.

Boçi further said that the essence of this reform is a new territorial division, with more municipalities and services. He added that the last reform ended with a political map that, according to him, was divided based on the number of votes and not the interest of citizens.

"If we proceed with the same modalities as before, we will only reform the failed reform. If we want a product, let's start working with sincerity for the interest of citizens and municipalities. The mayors have an interest, don't think that they brought us here. I have seen how humble they are in relation to the prime minister because they are stripped of any kind of autonomy. What is required at the core of this reform is a new territorial division, more municipalities, more services. This division does not coincide with the trends of economic development. This reform, which had beautiful vocabulary, as this one will have, ended with a political map whose map lines were set based on the number of votes. It was not determined by the interest of citizens and municipalities, but by the number of votes. We are in the function of our duty to also hold a debate for the citizen, by not accepting a political division of municipal units, by trying to restore the authority and competencies to those units that will be re-formed.
