NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has called for a radical change in the military industry, calling for a transatlantic defense industry revolution.
During the NATO Defense Industry Forum, held in Ankara, Rutte stated that member countries must significantly increase military production capacities.
"The noise of the machines must turn into a roar," he said, emphasizing that the defense industry in all the countries represented must be willing to take more risks, as demand for military equipment is growing.
According to the NATO head, the economic power of allied countries must be translated into concrete military capabilities, by investing in the production of drones, missiles and air defense systems.
"Industry in all the countries represented here must be willing to take more risk. The demand is there and you know it. We must make sure that we are translating our economic power into military capabilities, putting the money to work, from defense plans to drones, from money to missiles and interceptors ," Rutte said.
NATO on Tuesday unveiled a series of military projects worth billions of dollars. Rutte called the investments money well spent, stressing that they are necessary to strengthen the alliance's security.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is expected to arrive in Ankara later in the day. He has previously described NATO as a "paper tiger", arguing that the alliance could not function without American weapons and leadership. /CNA
