Albanian immigrants change strategy/ Heading to Britain on luxury yachts

An investigation by the British media outlet "The Sun" claims that British-Albanian criminal networks are using luxury superyachts to traffic illegal immigrants to the United Kingdom, avoiding the stricter controls imposed on small boats.

According to the report, the journalists infiltrated a network promoting travel through TikTok, posing as an Albanian citizen previously deported from Britain. Following WhatsApp communications, the traffickers reportedly offered them a place on a luxury yacht for a fee of £15,500, departing from the Netherlands and arriving near Dover.

The people contacted claimed that the yacht had three luxury cabins and that there would be no more than ten passengers on board. They also stated that payment was to be made only in Albania and that upon arrival in England, the migrants would be transported by vehicles to London.

According to the investigation, one of the traffickers claimed to have successfully organized a similar trip just ten days earlier, while saying that many of the clients were people previously convicted in Britain and deported.

The Sun points out that yachts are increasingly being used as an alternative, as they arouse less suspicion and can be anchored in smaller marinas, avoiding checks at major ports.

The report comes as British authorities have released statistics showing that thousands of deportees have re-entered the UK in recent years. According to figures cited by British media, Albanians make up the largest group of re-entry cases, with 1,525 people identified.

After the findings were published, The Sun announced that it had reported the account used on TikTok, which was shut down within an hour for breaching the platform's rules regarding human trafficking. The outlet also stated that the evidence file would be handed over to the UK's National Crime Agency.

Meanwhile, British authorities continue their efforts to curb illegal immigration through the English Channel, while this year alone over 11,000 people have arrived in Britain in small boats, according to official statistics cited in the report./ CNA
