"Trump has urged us to invest in defense"/ Rutte speaks ahead of NATO summit

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held a press conference from Ankara today, ahead of the summit with alliance leaders.

In his speech, Rutte said he had discussed with Trump the need to boost investment from the EU and Canada.

Rutte stated that Trump is the first president to encourage Europeans and Canadians to invest in defense.

The NATO Secretary General stated that he spoke with President Trump about his disappointment regarding Hormuz.

" I discussed with Trump the promotion of increased investment from both the EU and Canada. Trump has been a very strong promoter for us and is the first president who has encouraged Europeans and Canadians to invest in the field of defense thanks to his leadership. We also talked about the disappointments he has had about Hormuz and the refusal of some countries to give him air base support. On Friday we saw an achievement regarding free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz ," Rutte said./CNA
