Literary scholar passes away

Professor and literature scholar Ali Xhiku has passed away at the age of 83. 

Born in 1943, in Gjirokastra, Xhiku graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology in the years 1962-1966 in the branch of Albanian Language and Literature.

For 4 years, '74-'78, Ali Xhiku served as head of the Department of Albanian Literature.

He then held positions as Dean of the Faculty of History and Philology in the years 1983-1988 and Director of the Institute of Popular Culture at the Academy of Sciences in the years 1988-1993.

The researcher Ali Xhiku also has a series of scholarly works on literature such as "Arbëresh Romanticism", "Through the Historical-Literary Thought of Çabej" or "Albanian Literature as Polyphony".
