Agron Shehaj, rival or vassal of Lulzim Basha?

MP Agron Shehaj announced yesterday his candidacy in the race for leader of the Democratic Party. In fact, his name was mentioned in journalistic circles and in the corridors of the Democratic Party. But it was assumed that Shehaj could be a candidate in case Lulzim Basha would not be part of the race.

But over the days things have changed a lot. A strong group led by Bujar Nishani, Edith Harxhi, Arben Imami, Edvin Kulluri and others produced several candidates, Edith Harxhi and Ibsen Elezi. On the other hand, one of the people who was closest to Basha, Fatbardh Kadilli, entered the race after many clashes with the leader of the Democratic Party.

The last to file the application to run is Agron Shehaj. Shehaj was an unknown name to the public until 2017. At that time, he was appointed to run as an MP in the Vlora region. Lulzim Basha himself, considered successful the businessman of the call center, which in the last 4 years he made available to the DP for polls, or for comments on social networks.

But what exactly is Agron Shehaj, a rival or a vassal of Lulzim Basha? He joined the DP in 2017, so he has nothing to do with this party, no political contribution. Emigrated for many years in Italy, Shehaj returned to Albania as a successful businessman, but is accused of buying the mandate of deputy by paying a lot of money.

In the first 4 years as an MP he did nothing. He gave only a few speeches in Parliament with some funny speeches, unarticulated, ignorant, maybe due to his ?political ignorance?, but probably due to lack of experience. Shehaj drew attention after a very suspicious denunciation, that of the project of the New Ring of Tirana.

We say suspicious, because before Shehaj published the letter from the state of Delaware, the famous document that overturned the tender of the Ring, certain persons intended to negotiate with the company that had won this tender.

So after people close to Lulzim Basha failed to get their share of the money that would be given for the construction of the New Ring in Tirana, they gave the documents to Agron Shehaj, which in this case became a tool for Luli Basha and his family.

But apart from publishing a document and verbal denunciation, Shehaj did nothing else.

He didn?t support the resistance of the residents of that area against the demolition of their houses. On the other hand, Lulzim Basha?s man catapulted in 2017, is not present at all in DP structures. Not even with the people.

He is a superficial man who appears occasionally in the media, and pays regularly as advisers Neritan Sejamini or Adi Nurellari, or finances the portal of journalist Alfred Lela. After failing as an MP, Lulzim Basha brought him as a candidate in the Tirana region.

Shehaj engages his group of call centers, made a strong campaign in Tirana, got the maximum of personal votes, thanks to an unbridled propaganda on social networks.

In the public opinion he enjoys a positive image, as he has given his salary to the deputy for charity and has done some good things.

But on the other hand, he has no political connection, no political contribution, it does nothing, it simply acts only as they say. So the political head is empty, the image in public opinion seems to be full. Therefore, Agron Shehaj is not basically a real rival of Lulzim Basha. He is a vassal of the latter, and Lulzim Basha has put him in the race simply and only to legitimize him./CNA.al
