Dairy products/Allies in preventing mental deterioration

In new research, something previously thought is being challenged: it appears that dairy products may be an unexpected ally in preventing mental deterioration.

It is known that our eating habits affect our health at every stage of life. One of the biggest challenges of our time is forgetfulness, which affects more and more people as we age. But how is diet related to the risk of developing this condition?

A long-term study found that moderate consumption of high-fat cheeses and milk may help reduce the risk of developing mental decline.

Consuming about 50 grams of high-fat cheese each day (e.g., two slices of cheese) was associated with a 13% lower risk of developing mental decline.

Consuming about 20 grams of high-fat dairy cream (about a large spoonful) was associated with a 16% lower risk of this condition.

This analysis is based on data from a study in Sweden that followed about 28,000 people for about 25 years. The researchers compared those who consumed significant amounts of high-fat dairy products with those who consumed very little or none.

The most interesting point of this study is that high-fat cheese seems to be associated with a lower risk of mental deterioration, while others such as milk, yogurt or butter showed no such effect.
