EP Rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder: There is still work to be done to

The European Parliament's Permanent Rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder, shared several important messages today at the roundtable held this afternoon in Tirana during the meeting of the Albania-EU Parliamentary Committee.

In his speech, Schieder said that the EC has called Albania a forerunner of the processes.

Schieder praised the first place's work in retrospect, while adding that there is still work to be done to close the chapters.

"I have known Albania for a very long time and have seen many developments that have taken place in this country and I think it is important to evaluate the work done so far. Even if we go through the city of Tirana we will see simply the citizens, but also the standard of living, how much the country has developed in just a few years. Let's see that the enlargement process is not only about Tirana. Politics brings many issues to discuss. Enlargement is very engaging. The EC has called Albania a forerunner of the processes. There is still work to close the chapters. But again, the work is not finished. Implementation shows what citizens understand from this process. It has to do with EU legislation, foreign policies, the fight against corruption, the economy, the environment, social issues, work and living standards", - said Schieder. /CNA
