45 opposition MPs demand the establishment of a parliamentary investigative

A group of 45 opposition MPs have today made a request to the Parliament to establish an investigative committee in the Parliament on the legality of IPARD funds.

The request highlights that the list of winners of these funds shows that they have not helped Albanian farmers and their families, but have in fact been used as a profit mechanism by public officials, big businesses and exponents of organized crime.

 "The list made public is certainly not exhaustive, but it is an illustration of the problems and possible violations that have resulted during the implementation of the IPARD II program, which was intended to help Albanian farmers and their families, who with a lot of work, effort, sweat and sacrifice try to secure their livelihood, but which in fact turned into a mechanism for profit and enrichment for public officials, their family members, friends, big businesses and exponents of organized crime, who then use these funds in most cases not for the purpose for which they requested and were granted, but for other purposes," the request emphasizes.

Even before, in press statements, some opposition MPs have spoken out about this case, calling for further steps to be taken. /CNA
