Bust of Llazar Zai Fundo/Këlliçi: An important symbolic act for the

DP MP Belind Këlliçi expressed in a reaction that the installation of the bust of the prominent intellectual and one of the founders of the EU, Llazar (Zai) Fundo, is an important symbolic act for the intellectual and political heritage of Korça and Albania.

Këlliçi states that Zai Fundo, whom he describes as an extraordinary intellectual from Korçë, was a student in the Soviet Union together with his grandfather, Reshat Këlliçi. The MP further adds that Llazar Fundo, one of the architects of modern Europe, became a victim of Enver Hoxha's criminal regime very early on.

Këlliçi emphasizes that such a figure deserves to be remembered, so that Albanian society and the younger generations become aware of historical personalities and the shadow that the injustice of the dictatorship left on them.

The installation of the monument to Llazar "Zai" Fundo is a symbolic act with important significance for the cultural heritage of the city of Korça and all of Albania.

Zai Fundo was an extraordinary intellectual from Korçë, whose memory I cannot fail to mention on a personal level, as he was a student in the Soviet Union (1924-1930) together with my grandfather, Reshat Këlliçi.

He became a victim very early on of the criminal regime of Enver Hoxha, which could not tolerate any prominent personality who could cast a shadow over his mediocrity and banality.

It is worth noting that Zai Fundo, in addition to his political activity so much discussed by communist historiography, is also one of the architects of modern Europe.

Such a multidimensional figure deserves to be remembered, so that Albanian society, especially the younger generations, become aware of historical personalities and the shadow that the great weight of the injustices of the dictatorship left on them.

Today, in the heart of Korça, a monument has been placed that brings back to public memory one of the most prominent figures, not only of the city, but also of Albania. The bust of Llazar Zai Fundo, the work of sculptor Adi Dule, was placed in the square that bears his name, marking an important moment for the revaluation of figures persecuted during the communist regime. /CNA
