Turkey announces that it will evacuate its citizens from Lebanon

Turkey announced on Tuesday that it will evacuate Turkish nationals from Lebanon by sea on Wednesday.

Turkey's foreign ministry said Turkish navy ships will transport Turks who have sought to leave Lebanon.

Two ships, with total space for about 2,000 passengers, are expected to leave today for Beirut.

The Turkish Ministry said that the evacuation process will continue in the coming days, if necessary, adding that the ships carrying out the evacuation will also carry humanitarian aid for Lebanon.

Turkish officials have said they have drawn up plans to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon, due to the worsening security situation there.

Turkey is estimated to have 14,000 citizens registered in its consulate in Lebanon. Meanwhile, according to Reuters, about 2,500 Turks have applied to leave Lebanon.

Turkey has previously said it was working with about 20 countries to prepare for the evacuation of foreign nationals through Turkey.

Hundreds of people of various nationalities arrived in Turkey from Lebanon last week via commercial ships.

In recent weeks, the Israeli army has bombed Hezbollah targets in the south of Lebanon and around Beirut, while simultaneously carrying out a ground incursion./REL
