A year of war between Hamas and Israel/ Around 43,000 victims, risk of conflict

This Monday marks one year since the start of the war between Hamas in Gaza and Israel.

The war risks spreading with attacks that have intensified in Lebanon. The conflict in the Middle East has shaken not only the Middle East, but the entire world, which is calling for a ceasefire.

The war in Gaza was sparked when Palestinian Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages, according to Israeli data. Over 100 hostages remain held by Hamas.

Israel's previous military offensive in Gaza has killed an estimated 42,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Over the past year in the Gaza Strip, Israel has bombed more than 40,000 targets, found 4,700 tunnel shafts and destroyed 1,000 rocket launchers, the military said Monday on the first anniversary of the war.

Israel said 726 Israeli soldiers had been killed since October 7, 2023. Of those, 380 died in the October 7 attacks and 346 in fighting in Gaza starting on October 27, 2023.

Since the start of the war, 13,200 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza.
