"For 15 seconds, time stopped"/ Trump returns to the site of the
Donald Trump

Nearly three months after the assassination, former President Donald Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of the event that shocked public opinion, to promise his supporters victory in the November 5 presidential election.

A firefighter was killed in the July 13 shooting, which also left two bystanders critically wounded and a bullet grazed Trump in the ear.

"For 15 seconds, time stopped," said Trump.

"This wild monster unleashed evil, the villain did not succeed in his goal."

Security was tight at the next rally, however, as a result of increased Secret Service scrutiny following two assassination attempts on Trump, the second last month at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump's running mate JD Vance was also in attendance, as well as son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law Lara Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk, who supported Trump after the earlier attack.

Trump slammed the "corrupt system", promising to restore "respect" to US foreign policy and pledging to close the "open border", which he claims is a source of crime.

"You deserve a government that protects and respects its citizens, and protects your sovereignty, your security, your dignity and your freedom," he told thousands gathered at the Butler expo.

He also hit out at his political opponents, accusing them of "slandering" him and trying to interfere in the election, and cast doubt saying: "someone might even try to kill me".

"But I never stopped fighting for you," he added. "It will never rain," Trump said.

Trump repeatedly mentioned the assassinations and held a minute of silence for Corey Competore.

"He's become somewhat of a folk hero," Trump added./ CNA
