Russia shoots down 16 Ukrainian drones in Belgorod and near the Black Sea

Russia's Defense Ministry said its military repelled a Ukrainian drone attack Tuesday morning in its border region of Belgorod.

It said its anti-aircraft guns shot down 16 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

Fourteen drones were shot down over the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, while the other two were destroyed near Russia's Black Sea coast, the Russian Ministry said on Telegram.

A day earlier, Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Feodosia, which is the largest in the occupied Crimean Peninsula, causing a fire and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.

Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014, and Kiev wants it back as it fights back against Russia's 17-month-old full-scale occupation.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022. The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
