"I'm not worried about disagreements"/ Rutte: US is absolutely

NATO Chief Mark Rutte expressed satisfaction with the discussions held today in Brussels within the framework of the meeting of the Alliance's Defense Ministers. Rutte said that the discussions focused on strengthening deterrence and defense, as well as on ensuring continued support for Ukraine.

He expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Alliance members' commitments to increase defense spending, saying that the implementation of the decisions taken last June in The Hague shows a real change of mentality, a unity of vision, a much stronger European defense within NATO.

Regarding the Greenland issue and the disagreements expressed within the Alliance, Rutte stated that there will always be discussions and disagreements within NATO.

"It would be very boring if there wasn't. We've seen it in the past. I'm not worried about it," he said.

The NATO Secretary General was repeatedly questioned by journalists during the press conference following the Defense Ministers' meeting regarding the absence of US Secretary of War (Defense), Pete Hegseth. He stressed the importance of the intervention of Elbridge Colby, US Under Secretary of War (Defense), who attended the meeting.

"What you see today is a NATO to which the United States is absolutely committed ," Rutte said,

He was also asked whether NATO should hold direct talks with Putin, in line with the French president's statements on a possible EU dialogue with Moscow.

"President Trump unblocked peace negotiations with President Putin last February. I consider it absolutely legitimate to have this discussion, as long as the Europeans - and I am sure they will - are completely transparent about their initiatives, so that everything works in a coordinated way. Because we have one and only goal, to end this war in a way that Russia never tries to attack Ukraine again ," Rutte stressed. /CNA
