Ramush Haradinaj resigns from AAK leadership

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, announced that he will not run for party leadership in the internal party elections.

After the meeting of the AAK General Council, Haradinaj said that party elections will be held from February 20 to June 6.

"I will not run for president of the Alliance," said Haradinaj, indicating that there are several reasons for this decision.

The first, he said, is the long time in leadership, namely since May 2000, when the party was founded, but also the party's poor performance in two by-elections on February 9 and December 28, 2025.

In the last elections, AAK managed to secure six seats in the Kosovo Parliament.

Haradinaj announced that so far, Ardian Gjini has announced his candidacy for the new leader of AAK, but said that there may be other candidacies.

Asked if he will be a presidential candidate, Haradinaj said he is not.

Meanwhile, regarding the party's stance regarding the voting of Vjosa Osmani for a second term as president, Haradinaj said that AAK has not yet decided on this issue. Haradinaj was elected as a deputy of the tenth legislature that was constituted the day before. Meanwhile, in the December elections, he was AAK's candidate for prime minister.
