Osmani cancels trip to Munich/Kurti signals readiness for discussions on the

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has canceled her participation in the Munich Security Conference, Bekim Kupina, the president's media advisor, confirmed in several responses to Radio Free Europe.

Institutional commitments and priorities related to developments within the country were cited as reasons for canceling the visit.

The Munich Security Conference is taking place this year from February 13-15 in the German city. It is considered a prestigious conference due to the participation of high-level state officials.

It was previously reported that in addition to Osmani, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Petrit Ajeti, would also participate in this conference.

At the global level, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also confirmed his participation, along with a high-level delegation.

The decision made by Osmani comes a day after Kosovo was formed with a new government led by Albin Kurti.

The government was elected on February 11, the same day that the Kosovo Assembly was constituted.

Kurti and his party, the Vetevendosje Movement, won over 51 percent of the vote in the December 28 snap parliamentary elections, securing 57 seats in the Assembly.

Among the Government's top priorities in the first days is the ratification of international agreements that Kosovo has with the EU and the World Bank. Together, they amount to around 1 billion euros.

Prime Minister Kurti warned in a meeting held on Thursday morning that after voting on the state budget and ratifying international agreements, the focus will then return to the issue of the president's position.

"As soon as these [agreements] are finalized, I am ready to begin contacts and discussions with other political entities on the issue of electing the president starting tomorrow."

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has openly stated that she aims for another term as head of state.

It is not yet known whether her name will be proposed to the Assembly and whether she will have the necessary votes.

A candidate must secure two-thirds of the votes of the deputies in the 120-seat Assembly, while a quorum is reached with 80 deputies.

If a candidate does not secure 80 votes in the first two rounds, then in the third round of voting, it is enough to have 61.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe at the end of December, President Osmani said that if she does not win another mandate, she will return to political engagement, without indicating which party./REL
