Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky positively assessed the contacts he had with the American envoy regarding the prospects of ending the war with Russia, speaking of new ideas that could contribute to the formation of a realistic peace process.

The Ukrainian president had a nearly hour-long phone call with Steve Witkoff, which provided proposals for the formats, meetings and timetable of a possible deal. The talks came a day after an updated 20-point peace plan agreed upon by Ukrainian and US envoys in Florida.

Zelensky said he had asked his interlocutors to convey holiday greetings to US President Donald Trump and his family. At the same time, the Kremlin said it was considering proposals conveyed from Washington by a Russian envoy, without making further comment.

The Ukrainian president described yesterday as a particularly active day for Ukrainian diplomacy, while acknowledging that sensitive issues remain open. He noted that there is a common understanding with the US side on further steps, while the talks are expected to continue at a technical level led by Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov./CNA
