Fifth day of trial for former KLA leaders/ Rexhep Selimi's lawyer: KLA

Today marks the fifth day of statements in the trial against former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, former Speakers of Parliament Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, and former MP Rexhep Selimi at the Special Court, based in The Hague.

Rexhep Selim's lawyer, Eric Tully, has announced that he will address three topics on behalf of his client, the claims of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office (ZPS) about Selim's role as Minister of Public Order, the claims about some handwriting allegedly made by Selim, and then about some exceptions that the ZPS covers in its file.

Selim's lawyer begins by refuting the Prosecution's first claim that Selimi had control over the Police as Minister of Public Order.

According to him, the term "Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Police" is a thesis of the Prosecution, "designed as a basket where the Prosecution could throw as much evidence as possible through non-legal evidence" to give the false impression that a type of police existed and was led by Selimi as Minister of Public Order.

"After June, the KLA and the KLA military police were under the responsibility of the area commanders, not under the responsibility of Mr. Selimi. There was no such KLA police, or the Ministry of Public Order, that was supervised by Mr. Selimi, as the ZPS claims."

According to the lawyer, there was no police force established in April 1999, considering the circumstances at that time, and there is no corroborating evidence presented by witnesses or the SPO to substantiate such a claim.
