The affair of the incinerators is one of the biggest corruption scandals of the 33 years of transition or Albanian democracy. An affair of 178 million euros, where for the first time the prosecutors were able to discover money paid to ministers, general secretaries, directors, an entire state fell to the knees of the people of the incinerators, in a fraudulent scheme by the same individuals, with " their brain" Mirel Mërtiri, then Klodian Zoto and Stela Gugallja.

The case of incinerators is really not closed, this is because new facts and evidence emerge, not simply and only for Tirana, but also for Fier and Elbasan, where it is claimed that the investigations have been closed and the case has gone to court.
It was Mirel Mërtiri himself, who pointed the finger at the prosecutor Klodian Braho, this is a case to properly open the investigations of Elbasan, to get all the violence in there and Mirel's claims with bought experts that more had been invested before the project.
So, Mireli had thrown a few million from his pockets, where they were found remains to be seen, since to throw millions of euros more, you have to have those assets.
On the other hand, another story that requires reinvestigation or facts that could lead to new charges is Fieri. Behind Mirel Mërtiri's claims is the opposition's claim that important documents were hidden in Fier and high officials were avoided, including mayors, Armando Subashi and others.
So, there are two open cases, with an incinerator in Elbasan which is a large oil boiler that needs millions of euros of fuel to operate and another one in Fier, which has not been completed as it requires about another 3 million euros of investment.
Tirana, the history of the capital's landfill and incinerator is even greater. The incinerator does not exist there and after more than 6 years of the concession contract, as they are heading towards the seventh year, the capital is on the verge of an emergency.
The mountains of garbage risk turning into a devastating ecological bomb for the capital and what is more important is the fact that the incinerators do not exist, do not work, are not being used, while Albania needs more than ever to be cleaned or to make landfills available due to the development of tourism and others.
It is an issue that needs to be investigated even faster with new facts and evidence, and beyond the corrupt officials who will be brought to justice, it is necessary to find out where the millions of euros have gone, from the taxes of the poor Albanians, which were started for the incinerators and ended up in the pockets of a chain of fraudsters, corrupt and media bandits, who spare nothing to fill their pockets./ CNA
