From June next year, the entire road from Orikum to Palasa can be covered in just 20 minutes. In the Llogara tunnel, only 30 percent of the works are left to be completely completed. It has been opened from both sides, but work is being done only for concreting.

"Looking at the cycle of works and the way it is being operated, we say that within the tourist season, with the contract, the tunnel has to be completed in September 2024 and we will open it in June-July 2024", said Evis Berberi, Director in the Albanian Road Authority. 

The geological composition in this area, unlike the Morrizi tunnel on Rruga e Arbri, has favored the company to have a faster pace of work.

"The Murriz tunnel, the geological section is such that we walk 1.5 meters a day there, while at the opening of the Llogara tunnel we go 22 meters a day," he said. 

In parallel, with this segment of the south coast road, the project of the segment that leads to Himare is ready. All this new axis will serve the tourists who will rest on this coast.

The existing road is supposed to function for the connection with the villages of this area, while in the projects of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the director of ARRSH, says that there is also the construction of a third road that will serve only for the transport of goods.

"Simply dedicated to the transport of goods and transit passengers to go in the direction of the coastal areas to Saranda," said Barberi.

The costs for the tunnel alone have been calculated at the start of the 140 million Euro project, and Berberi claims that there was no need for additional money because the works have progressed according to forecasts./ Klan Tv
