Prime Minister Edi Rama said today that the Albanian energy sector has moved from the wounds of the past to a stabilized and transparent phase, where international competition functions without concerns about corruption.
He stressed that the energy portfolio is diversifying: water remains the main source of production, while solar and wind energy are increasingly taking their place. For 30% of production, Albania will be self-sufficient and any excess energy will be exported, bringing income to the country.
Rama underlined that investment competitions in the sector are open and fair, without complaints from participating companies, and the government has provided support to overcome any bureaucratic obstacles. He praised the development of the sector as an example of modern administration and open competition for investments.
"Today, what were until yesterday a wound in the Albanian state are the vanguard in their administration and proper functioning. Today we have a portfolio that has begun to diversify and balance, where water will remain the main source of production, but solar and wind energy have begun to take their place."
For this 30%, we will have a guarantee that our system will be self-sufficient because everything we produce will be exported, which means no more money going abroad but energy sold abroad to bring money into the country.
The energy sector is the sector of open international competitions and the massive presence of companies participating in these competitions.
We are at a stage where the word corruption is like those fashionable shoes that if someone doesn't take it out of their mouth, it seems that it is not fashionable. This sector has received a consistent response and there is not a single serious company that has taken part in the competition that has expressed even the slightest reservation regarding the integrity of the competitions and the processes established in this sector.
"Not only have they not encountered any obstacles of this nature in Tirana, they have had the government on their side to overcome absurd bureaucratic obstacles," said Rama./ CNA
