"Effective justice, a priority for EU integration"/ Gonzato:

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, praised today at the national conference on the quality of justice the importance of an efficient and functional judicial system for the country's integration into the EU.

"Justice and its swift delivery are at the heart of the European Union accession process. The conference sets the tone for the year ahead and supports justice institutions," Gonzato said.

He added that the challenges facing judges, due to the large volume of cases, require decisive action and increased human resources.

The Ambassador underlined the need for more judges and prosecutors, supported by legal advisors, as well as the initiation of necessary appointments to ease the workload of the judicial system. “If necessary, their number should be increased to guarantee the daily functioning of the judiciary,” he said.

The national conference, according to Gonzato, is a key moment to discuss and set the priorities of the new year in justice, clearly linking it to the interests of Albanian citizens and the demands of the European Union.

"The year 2025 ended with a conference on justice and the new year is starting with an activity on justice. How much justice and the efficient delivery of justice is at the foundation of the EU process. The conference sets the tone for the year ahead, support for justice institutions.

The topic is essential and crucial because it relates to a concrete issue for all Albanian citizens.

I would like to begin this speech by saying that we understand the challenges and confrontations that judges face. I know that it is not easy to work under pressure with a large backlog of cases, measures must be taken.

These challenges require decisive action.

We need more prosecutors and judges supported by legal advisors.

"Necessary appointments should begin. If necessary, numbers should be increased to support judges in their daily work," Gonzato said./ CNA
