Cup of Albania/ 40 cyclists take part in the race held in Korça

This weekend, the national Cup of Albania cycling competition was held in Korça. With the participation of 40 athletes from all the cities of the country, with two stages held yesterday and today, which ended with quite good results for two groups of cyclists, Junior and Elite. In this Sunday's stage, Ankel Limaja for the Junior category and Mateo Balaj for the Elite category managed to take first place. The second places were secured by Visar Nuhaj for the Junior category and Olsian Veliaj for Elite.

The route covered by the cyclists was about 123 km, starting from "Lëdina e Lotëve" in the city, then towards Kapshtica, Gorica e Madhe and ending again in Korça. The cyclists of both categories expressed themselves enthusiastic and quite satisfied with the achievements, who after more than 3 hours secured the first places, although the terrain was mountainous and tiring for them.

17-year-old Ankel Limaja, winner of the first place in the Junior category, has shown that the competition went very well, while he says that he participated in such competitions to test himself and improve the results.

"The race went very well, we did a lot of training to reach this race. Thank God we won and took first place. It was worth it, I thank my professor Joan Sallaku, he is the best professor I have as well as the professor of the Student Club. It's not the first time, I've participated many times and I always got the first place as a result. These activities are very important because we do a lot of training to reach the first place."

Visar Nuhaj is a 17-year-old cyclist from Kosovo, part of the competition for the Junior category, who managed to take second place in the route covered.

"It's the second time I participate, I took second place in the competition. Good, beautiful, strong experience. I come from Kosovo. They are very valuable for us, for exercises, for experience. I'm a little sorry that I didn't I came first, but second is also very good. Difference of how, 1 minute or 2 maybe."

Shkodran cyclist Mateo Balaj has managed to take first place in the Elite category in the second stage of the race. The 20-year-old says that it is the umpteenth time that he participates in the race for the Cup of Albania, while he says that it remains a beautiful experience that lasted about 3 hours and without problems for the participating cyclists.

"I come from Shkodra, it's the 3rd or 4th time I participate, I took the first place. Very good experience, it lasted 3 hours, 3 hours or less. Everything went well, I'm very happy. Activities like this done often is better, because the level also increases."

The second place in the Elite category was achieved by the cyclist from Tirana, Olsian Veliaj, who told more about the terrain they traveled, being a sprinter cyclist, he had a little more difficulty adapting to the mountainous terrain. Among other things, he appealed for such activities to take place as often as possible, since cycling, according to him, has been forgotten.

"The race went very well, it was mountainous terrain, but with the help of my friend Mateo, who is with the Shkodra team, we performed well and came to the finish together. Today I came second because we won't win everything the races, we will leave the others too. It was a bit tiring for me because I am a sprinter cyclist and I don't like the mountain terrains because of the weight, but it wasn't much of a problem because we are also training for the Tour of Albania I feel very good, every victory has its own emotion, it is nice to win. Normally, there should be many activities so that the youth can see that the sport of cycling exists, because it has been forgotten by the youth and if there are more activities people will commit to coming to the sport."

The president of the Albanian Cycling Federation, Skënder Anxhaku, in addition to thanking the municipality and the multi-sport club in Korçë, also stopped at the next race for the Tour of Albania, which will bring together 15 foreign teams, while Albania will be represented by the national team and Tirana team.

"Being in Korça is a special pleasure. The activity went extremely well. I will thank you in a special way because we also have a partner, the Municipality of Korça, the Multisports Club. It was an activity that we prepare before the tour of Albania that starts on the 20 and we arrived in Korça with 15 foreign teams. Both stages were difficult because it was a mountainous terrain, but we saw the perspective of 4-5 athletes of the national team who are of the right quality. We can think of winning it Albania won it again, like last year. About 40 athletes participated, there were others who could not get permission from school and did not come, but we think that we have two teams that will participate in the tour. of Albania, the national team and the Tirana team."
