May 11th Observation/ Bylykbashi: The elections did not ensure a level playing

DP Vice President Oerd Bylykbashi commented today on the results obtained from the observation of the May 11 elections by internationals.

In an interview on 'Syri Tv', Bylykbashi said that according to reports, the parliamentary elections did not provide a level playing field.

Bylykbashi added that the DP has described in its positions that on May 11 there was total use of the state and the fact that the government used power to guarantee advantages for its candidates.

"The Foreign Minister's letter to the OSCE-ODIHR after the publication of the preliminary report on the May 11 elections is a scandalous act, to put it briefly. Despite the minister's attempts to perform his pirouettes, the act is unacceptable."

Albania is a member state of the OSCE and from this membership you have obligations, and among them is the obligation to invite the OSCE-ODIHR for unhindered observation of the elections in Albania, an obligation that arises from all documents and is foreseen in the Istanbul summit of 1999.

Such an action is unprecedented, for a very long time that I can remember.

If we blame Hasan, we are reducing responsibility. This is Edi Rama's order.

Election observation is also conducted in EU countries, but the observation is very small.

The fact that a massive observation mission of the most complete standard continues to take place in Albania means that Albania needs to observe in detail and over the long term in all aspects.

The ministry's reaction was as if Albania was equal to Belgium in terms of standards and our officials were being toppled from their chairs, seeing the OSCE for the first time in the preliminary report today.

From the first sentence it is stated that the elections did not provide a level playing field.

That's enough to kill any hope Edi Rama has that the elections will be considered free and fair.

Not only that. But it clearly states what we have been saying for a long time, the total use of the state and the fact that the government used its power to guarantee advantages for its candidates.

"And all of this had enraged Edi Rama, who ordered the minister to write an unacceptable letter about any kind of communication standard with these types of organizations," Bylykbashi said. /CNA
