Veliaj tells another lie

After the lie of the day before, the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, did not hesitate to tell another one.

After saying he was arrested because prosecutors were afraid he would leave the country, Veliaj now says that one of the reasons he should remain in prison is that "the person poses a very high social risk."

This is a lie because, as is clarified and emphasized in the file, the criminal offenses he is accused of are serious and could destroy evidence or intimidate witnesses, as in the case of the chairwoman of the Laws Commission, Klotilda Bushka, or other associates of the mayor.

Erion Veliaj was not arrested for doing "Big Brother in prison" or showbiz, although he is suspected of having a phone, but he was arrested for two serious criminal offenses: laundering the proceeds of crime and corruption.

On the other hand, his associates have destroyed the evidence. Veliaj is in handcuffs because the law provides for it and he has two court decisions as he himself wrote in the appeal he filed with the Court of Appeal./ CNA
