The Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Democratic Party, Akil Kraja, in a recent television appearance emphasized that the DP is the party that has supported the Diaspora the most and, driven by the high demand of emigrants to register for the May 11 elections, requests that the registration deadline be extended by the CEC until March 9.

Among other things, Kraja added that the DP is not afraid of the Albanian vote and that the only thing it seeks is a fair competition.

"The Democratic Party is the party that has supported the diaspora vote the most. Let me give you a figure. From Friday, February 28th until now, there have been 45,000 requests to register on the CEC portal."

A record, which represents more than 10 percent of the total number of individuals registered in these approximately 2 months. How can the CEC, seeing this extraordinary influx of applications in the last hours, in the last minutes of the application, not extend the deadline? Based on these data, the DP also requests that the CEC extend the deadline by a few more days until the 9th.

The Democratic Party is not afraid of the Albanian vote, it wants this vote. The DP is not afraid of a free race and wants this race. That is why we have been at the forefront of ensuring that these Albanians have the opportunity to vote completely freely like the rest of Europe.

Every vote of every compatriot counts. That's why the process should be postponed. We will fight hard for Albanians to vote free of charge from their homes abroad. We are somewhere around 290 thousand requests. In terms of voters, it is the size of the second largest city in Albania.

"Legal and technical conditions allow for the extension of the deadline until March 9. In any case, those who have problems should contact the DP or the CEC on the hotline. Those who were refused should do it again," said Kraja. /CNA
