"Salary increase to 5.5 million lek"/ Demo: In 2026, a fund of 1.3 billion euros for local government

Minister of State for Local Government, Ervin Demo, stated today that the 2026 budget foresees an increase in the fund for the country's municipalities, as well as an increase in salaries for employees in these institutions.

In his speech in the Assembly, Demo stated that there will be a fund of 9 million euros for municipalities, while salaries are expected to amount to 5.5 million lek. 

"I thank all the troops on the ground for coping with the situation of heavy rainfall and flooding in the territory. The 2026 draft budget also shows the strategic development of the country. We are in a new phase of consolidation and proximity to European standards. We have admirable fiscal discipline, controlled inflation and decreasing public debt. The budget is based on stable foundations. The budget is more than 9 million euros. Local government is also a key axis regarding reforms in 2026. At the local level, citizens affect services. In 2026, local government will be treated as a real actor of change. The total fund for local government reaches 1.3 billion euros. More autonomy and real responsibility for municipalities. More social welfare and infrastructure. The salary increase goes to 5.5 million lek and we are talking about thousands of employees who are affected by this increase", - said Demo. /CNA
