Draft Budget 2026/ Malaj: Guarantees increased social protection for the needy

Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, spoke in the Parliament regarding the draft budget for 2026. Malaj stated that the expenditure on social protection is expected to be 257.3 billion lekë. He added that this draft budget guarantees the increase of social protection for the needy groups with a focus on children, mothers with many children, the elderly and vulnerable families.

"The expenditure on Social Protection is projected to be 257.3 billion lek, or 10% of Gross Domestic Product. Compared to the 2025 draft budget, we will have an addition of 11.6 billion lek. The 2026 draft budget guarantees the sustainable increase of social protection for the needy with a focus on children, mothers with many children, the elderly and vulnerable families. From the social protection programs, we mention 61 thousand beneficiaries of economic assistance, 94 thousand as people with disabilities and their caregivers, 8300 unemployed women, 780 thousand beneficiaries of the pension support scheme, and 33 thousand newborns who will benefit from the baby bonus program", said Malaj. /CNA
