Tobacco in Parliament: The living minimum should be approved

Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku called during her speech at the Parliament podium for the adoption of a living wage.

Tabaku stated during her speech that today pensioners and social groups are the poorest strata. The MP said that Albania is the only country in the region and the EU that has not adopted a living wage.

"Starting from the situation of law and order and organized crime and continuing with the living wage. The living wage has been a demand that the DP has brought every time the budget has been approved. The Albanian government in the 13th year of its mandate does not provide a living wage for citizens. Today, pensioners are the poorest class. Today, social groups are the poorest class. In all statistics, Albania is last in the Western Balkans. Albania needs 53 years to reach EU standards for the economic aspect. This is because of this government. 55% of Albanian families cannot make ends meet. The indicators are clear. Albania must close the gap between Albanian incomes and those of the region and the EU. Without approving the living wage, this will not happen. This parliament has approved many laws, to the detriment of citizens. I believe that if Albania has a problem today, it is related to poverty. The main merit of this government is that from 500 thousand today, there are 675 thousand pensioners who live at the mercy of the government. After the budget is approved, the DP will bring this legal proposal again, as a moral obligation towards citizens who expect this parliament to approve laws in their interest. Other countries in the region have it. The SP refuses to approve this vital minimum ," said Tabaku. /CNA
