Will prosecutor Ols Dado take Mayor Erion Veliaj to court?

CNA yesterday revealed that former DP MP and Socialist Municipal Council member Halit Valteri, one of Erion Veliaj's mercenaries, had begun collecting signatures to summon the mayor to be heard in the Municipal Council regarding the 2026 budget. ( READ HERE )

Then, immediately after the news was published in the media financed by both the incinerators and the money from Erion Veliaj's brother's businesses, a document was leaked with the signatures of the members of the Municipal Council, who requested the SPAK prosecutor, Ols Dado, and the General Directorate of Prisons to allow Erion Veliaj to go, speak, and unveil the 2026 budget.

In fact, Erion Veliaj has received a decision from the Constitutional Court, which is related to his dismissal, so it found the dismissal illegal, but it did not say that Erion Veliaj should go to the office because the law clearly defines these and we must emphasize that Erion Veliaj is currently under arrest in prison with the decisions of all courts, from the lowest to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court said that the dismissal of members of the Municipal Council by Erion Veliaj's and Halit Valter's friends was illegal, but it does not say that Erion Veliaj must go to the office or must attend Municipal Council meetings.

On the other hand, there is a case, a previous precedent, regarding the actions taken against arrested persons, whether they are mayors or mayoral candidates.

Let us recall here the case of Fredi Beleri.

Prosecutor Adnan Xholi never gave permission for Fredi Beleri to take the oath, which was simply a three-minute act. He would go and listen to the oath and say "I swear" and was not given permission by prosecutor Adnan Xholi.

In the case of Erion Veliaj, the situation is much simpler, we are not dealing with something important where he has to be sworn in and take the mandate, but he simply has to go and read some letters regarding the budget, which are read by Erion Veliaj's delegated deputy mayor, the director of budget investments, etc.

There are many structures, individuals and people who can disclose the budget of the Municipality of Tirana. It is not necessarily necessary for Erion Veliaj to attend the Municipal Council meeting for the 2026 budget.

The most necessary thing was Fredi Beleri's going to be sworn in because he could lose his mandate, just as he lost his mandate as mayor and was not allowed to be sworn in.

In this case, Erion Veliaj does not lose any mandate or anything, he simply is not brought to the courtroom after these provocative demands made to prosecutor Ols Dado.

It's very simple to understand.

Will Ols allow Dado Erioni to go to the meeting and present the budget where there is no reason why anyone else could do it, falling prey to the pressure of the signatures of the City Council member or the attacks made in the media against Erion Veliaj?

Or will he respect the established precedent that was found and legal by his colleague, prosecutor Adnan Xholi.

This is the fact. Freddie Blair was not even allowed to take the oath, and Erion Veliaj is asking to go and read some pieces of paper.

The precedent is Fredi Beleri, Ols Dado is faced with the fact whether he will respect the legal precedent or fall prey to the noise and signatures of those who in this case seem like charlatans after they dismissed Erion Veliaj on September 23 and now want to hear him as mayor in such a meeting.

Finally, we ask a question: What more does Erion Veliaj have than Fredi Beleri that he should go to the office or to the Municipal Council meeting?/ CNA
