Protest of Ksamil/Zhupa watercraft owners: Safety of vacationers, absolute

Democratic MP Ina Zhupa has reacted to the protest held by Ksamil's marine tourism operators in front of the Saranda Municipal Council. 

Through a post on social media, Zhupa emphasizes that it is unacceptable that the municipality has not yet provided a solution and has not sat down in dialogue with the marine tourism operators of Ksamil.

According to the MP, the proposed bases far from tourist areas and at problematic points for navigation are not a realistic solution for their work.

Zhupa calls for every decision regarding maritime activity in this area to always have the absolute priority of the safety of citizens and vacationers.

"The second protest of the marine tourism operators in Saranda. It is unacceptable that the municipality has not yet provided a solution and has not sat down in dialogue with the marine tourism operators of Ksamil. The proposed bases far from tourist areas and at problematic points for navigation are not a real solution for their work.

The safety of citizens and vacationers must always be the absolute priority in any maritime activity. But, at the same time, businesses that live off tourism must also be able to exercise their activity in a regular, controlled and functional manner.

During election campaigns, they immediately meet them and ask for their support, while as soon as the elections are over, they only bring out the police in front of citizens and businesses. Tourism does not develop with arrogance and lack of communication, but with cooperation, clear rules and respect for the people who keep the local economy alive.

"The municipality must urgently sit down with the operators and find a functional solution, because the season has started and the delays are directly damaging the local economy and the tourist image of Ksamili," Zhupa said. /CNA
