"EU membership, not just passing laws"/ Ambassador of the Netherlands:

The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Albania, Reinout Vos, shared a message today regarding the country's integration.

Speaking during his participation in a roundtable organized by the Institutional Oversight Committee, Vos emphasized that this process for Albania is not only about the adoption of legislation aligned with EU directives.

According to the ambassador, the real challenge is institutional culture, which is built on the belief that they function independently and fairly.

“The European Union accession process is not just about passing legislation. It is not simply a technical exercise in translating directives into Albanian law. If that were the case, the process could probably be completed by a very intelligent artificial intelligence system and some tired lawyers drinking too much coffee late at night. The real challenge is institutional culture. The European Union, after all, is built on trust: trust that institutions function independently, trust that government is accountable, trust that laws are implemented fairly, and trust that citizens have a meaningful voice in public life,” the ambassador said./CNA
