The Democratic Party today accused the Government and Edi Rama of failing in the field of food safety.

In a statement by a member of the DP leadership, Grigels Muçollari expressed concern that the National Food Authority does not hold itself responsible for the systematic failure of food insecurity that exists today in Albania.

Muçollari added that citizens expect food security, and while the government agency has failed, Edi Rama is using the AKU chair to reward the servants of dirty work in justice.

Statement by member of the DP leadership, Grigels Muçollari:

"Two days ago, the main media in the country reported that the director of the National Food Authority had left, and Olsi Komici had taken over, who until now had served as commissioner in the Independent Qualification Commission, one of the new justice bodies that dealt with the vetting process and the removal of prosecutors and judges.

It is understood that the government does not see it necessary to be transparent about this movement.

There is no doubt that the head of the AKU should be held accountable and should be removed from that position, due to the systemic failure and due to the food insecurity that exists in Albania today.

The problem is that the government and the Prime Minister see this office not as a major public responsibility, but as a position to satisfy their interests and reward their influence.

This appointment, of an important vetting commissioner in a government agency, also proves the lack of independence of this process in justice.

The National Food Authority is an institution that has a very strong obligation to the public and citizens regarding the quality and guarantee of what people consume.

Edi Rama, who personally consumes wine for 33 thousand euros per bottle, frequents the most expensive detoxification centers in Europe, certainly has no problem with what citizens eat and drink.

He is more interested in rewarding someone who has served him with a position.

For the Democratic Party, food security is equal to national security.
