DP National Assembly/ Berisha: This party can never be bought or sold

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during his speech at the DP National Assembly, praised the Democrats' resilience over the last five years, emphasizing that the trust in the party's members and supporters has never wavered.

Berisha recalled the process of re-establishing the DP in 2021, describing it as the start of a difficult journey in the face of political challenges. In his speech, the democratic leader accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to annihilate the opposition and turn the DP into a “facade opposition.” According to Berisha, attempts to control or buy the party have failed.

Berisha stressed that the Democrats stood up for the truth in a period when, according to him, everything seemed to be against them. He described the members of the DP as “guardians of political pluralism, national sovereignty and the values ??of freedom and human dignity.”

Excerpt from Berisha's speech:

Dear delegates, guests, present in this Assembly, each of us at this moment, can exclamatory ask the question: what a journey, what an extraordinary marathon of marathon runners like you. I remember today when we took the first steps in this mission five years ago in the 21st National Assembly, when we re-established the DP. I knew well that we had a difficult path, fierce battles awaited us. I knew well the narco-state that had been installed in Albania.

But friends, in my political career and in life, I have made mistakes, I have had a great advantage, from my youth until today I have always maintained intact the conviction that no one can escape the theory of error. Therefore, I have always tried to correct them. But I must tell you today, that I have not been wrong in one thing, and what I have never been wrong, I have not been wrong in trusting you.

I have never in my life doubted the slightest trust in you, your strong character, your ideals, your determination, your dedication. So we embarked on a difficult journey together, at a critical moment after decades of making many efforts to strengthen pluralism, to consolidate democracy. We also had our own great, undeniable achievements.

But there came a moment when Edi Rama decided as the morality, as the platform of his regime the morality and platform of his executioner fathers. He launched an attack to annihilate the DP, to transform it into a facade opposition, to buy it. But he was wrong. This party is not for the market. This party is for morality. This party is for ideals. This party is for values. It is neither bought nor sold. Nor is it ever defeated. That is why we rose up.

We stood up at a time when it seemed that both the earth and the sky were against us. But we stood up at that time because we were invincible in our belief in the truth. We stood up, they imposed it on us, not because we wanted to, but among all, we chose to defend the truth. So you too, sit here today proudly, you and every democrat, proud because you come to this hall and wherever you are, guardians of political pluralism in Albania. Guardians of the sovereignty of the Albanian nation. Invincible guardians of the values ??of freedom, of human dignity. /CNA
