DP National Assembly committees approved/Internationalists welcome proceedings

The National Assembly of the Democratic Party has opened its proceedings. At the start, the Assembly Steering Committee was approved, composed of: Ivi Kaso, (Chairman), Floriana Garo, (member), Bardh Spahia, (member) Nada Meçorapaj, (member) and Eliona Shkreli, member; the Mandates and Quorum Verification Committee, composed of: Marash Logu, Adriana Kalaja, Ledio Nuraj; the Committee responsible for voting and elections, composed of: Gazment Bardhi (Chairman), Eda Grinçi, (member), Eno Bozdo, (member).

After the approval of the committees, the welcoming speech of the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, was broadcast. The latter wished the DP a successful Assembly.

"I wish all members of the Democratic Party of Albania a very successful assembly. I was very pleased to host Mr. Sali Berisha, my friend of many years, in Croatia during the IDU Forum here in Zagreb, a few weeks ago. We had a broad conversation about the activities and reform of the party. We share the same consistent pro-European orientation and I would like to give you the strong support of the Croatian Democratic Union for a successful assembly of the party and for further electoral successes ," Plenkovic said.

Then, former US Congressman Bob McEwen took the podium of the DP Assembly.

"I come from the USA and convey the congratulations of many friends and members of Congress. The whole world is blessed by Albanians, but most importantly I was privileged to be in Tirana when the Albanians decided to replace the bust of a dictator. The monument crumbled and I took a piece. The Albanian nation has laid its foundations since then. It was a coalition led by Sali Berisha that brought Albania into NATO and the whole world now sees it as a friend and ally," McEwen said.

The welcoming message from the IDU President, Stephen Harper, was also broadcast.

"On behalf of the International Democratic Union (IDU), it is my special pleasure to convey our warmest greetings to each of you gathered at the Renewal Assembly of the Democratic Party of Albania. This is a moment of true significance, not only for your party, but also for democratic governance throughout Albania and the wider region. IDU was founded on the belief that free peoples, governed by accountable institutions and dynamic democratic parties, build fairer and more prosperous societies. For four decades, IDU has united center-right parties around the world in defense of individual freedom, the rule of law, and accountable governance. The Democratic Party of Albania is a long-standing pillar of this family, and today we stand firmly by your side. The decision to convene this Renewal Assembly reflects both courage and wisdom. Strong democratic parties do not stand still; they listen to citizens, reassess their structures, and clarify the vision to respond to the challenges of the time," Harper said, among other things. /CNA
