Villas of Lulzim Basha are one of the most denounced issues in the media.
CNA has repeatedly published facts about how Basha denounced the oligarchs and after some time stopped mentioning their names and randomly moved to their villas.
Yes, the man most accused in politics for the villas, is worried about the constructions in Albania.
Basha wrote this Saturday on social networks that more than 2 billion euros were laundered in the construction sector.
He raises the question of where the money for construction comes from, who is behind it, and who provides construction permits on behalf of the companies.
" Over 2 billion euros have been laundered in the construction sector in Albania according to international reports.
The US Department of State in its report finds that Albania is "the main destination of money laundering".
In 2020, the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GITOC) found that construction in Albania was a preferred way to launder money.
In 2021, the arrest of dozens of 'Ndrangheta members in Italy revealed their links to the construction sector in Albania. Interceptions as part of the investigation revealed that one of the suspects stated: "In new skyscrapers, the prices are around €3800-4000 per square meter. Do you know what the real cost is? €510."
Although SPAK launched a preliminary investigation in February 2021, there is still no indication of what is happening with this investigation.
Millions of square meters of construction permits are reported to have been granted in Tirana in recent years. Most of the companies under whose name construction permits are obtained do not have the financial capacity to complete them. The companies' balance sheet showed that they have minimal income and no assets or loans that can be used to finance projects.
Where does this money come from?
Who is hiding behind them?
Who and how secures building permits on behalf of these modest companies?
Whose money is being cleaned with the constructions in Tirana?
The Democratic Party, through its advisors in Tirana, has requested complete data on construction permits in the capital. The municipality of Tirana has an obligation to make transparency about the permits granted, while SPAK must undertake a deep and unhindered investigation so that Tirana is not an oasis of crime and corrupt politicians who launder money in the construction sector", he emphasizes .
