Pope Leo XIV arrives in Madrid/ 6-day visit to Spain, meeting with the royal

Pope Leo XIV arrived in Madrid this Saturday, where he began the first part of his 6-day papal visit to Spain.

"Today, the temptation to gain popularity by fanning polarization seems to have increased rather than diminished, and human dignity continues to be violated. I invite everyone to put aside divisive and polarizing narratives of your social reality and history, in order to overcome sterile simplifications through a fruitful appreciation of complexity," the Pope said.

The Pope chose to convey his message of unity and dialogue to Spain, a country that has recently been marked by political and social polarization over issues ranging from migration to abortion.

The Pope's first stop in the country's capital was the royal palace, where he was welcomed by Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. The Catholic monarchs had a private meeting with the Pope, before he delivered his speech to political and diplomatic authorities. /CNA
